Acne Awareness Month
Hey friends,
In case you missed our Insta stories, June is Acne Awareness Month! If you are struggling, know you are not alone. Acne affects roughly 40 to 50 million people worldwide every year, and it doesn’t discriminate by age or gender either. We frequently receive calls asking how we can help you guys with breakouts, so today we wanted to share some of our top tips.
Come in for a complimentary consultation. Acne is one of the toughest topics in the skincare world and unfortunately, there is just not a one size fits all solution. For some, consistent medical-grade skincare may work wonders for your skin. For others, we may need to customize a multifaceted approach. While we do offer a wide range of services and products, the best way we can help you is to build a plan that fits your individual needs.
Cleanse, Cleanse, and cleanse… just not too much! We recommend avoiding makeup removing solutions and cotton rounds. The best way to remove your makeup is by double cleansing… selecting a gentle cleanser that fits your needs, washing your face once, and then washing it again. This helps fully clean your skin and pores rather than just wiping down the surface. Just remember that washing your face morning and night is sufficient. Over cleansing can cause dryness and irritation which can actually fuel acne.
Don’t add dirty to clean! Now that you’re double cleansed, toned, and beautiful...don’t take a dirty makeup brush or hand to your face! Deep cleaning makeup brushes monthly with your gentle cleanser helps avoid transferring bacteria to the face. The same principle goes with moisturizers and serums, always applying with clean hands.
Don't ever pick at blemishes. We know it's hard, but picking only makes the problem worse by exposing yourself to more bacteria and increasing the likelihood of scarring and post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. If you feel you must address a particular spot, you can try icing the area morning and night, as well as check out our Purifying spot gel. (link)
Check your habits. How’s your diet? Are you drinking enough water? Are you getting enough sleep? No, downing 120 ounces of water isn’t going to knock your skin clear but how we take care of ourselves matters. Just as it would in any other area of your life, stress can wreak havoc on your skin. If you’re experiencing new breakouts, taking a look at what has changed in your day to day can be especially helpful.
